The characters Drop and Droplet danced together with the children during a festival in Nu Boyana Film Studios
29.06.2015

Sofiyska Voda supported the first international children’s festival Kids Fest 2015. In the yard of Nu Boyana Film Studios children and parents as well as students of SOS Children’s Villages got together.

The water characters Drop and Droplet performed a special dance and gave away the children booklets telling stories about the adventures of Drop and Droplet. On the stage there were also yoga demonstrations and little talents performed gymnastics, sang and danced.

In the workshops the children learnt how to make jewelries out of beads, flowers and origami swans, made dolls out of wool, the children also learnt how to play on drums, they were shown physics experiments. They were tempted with geometry, hockey on grass, first moves in the chess game and were also enchanted by the shining costumes and flexibility of the small gymnastic players – the students of Iliyana Raeva. Volunteers from the Bulgarian Red Cross performed how to give first aid.

The guests, who were informed in advance, showed during the festival all dressed up in costumes and masks in compliance with the condition – “low-budget, however, impressive and homemade”. Just as it happens in the movies, everyone could become a hero on that Sunday afternoon, a Roman soldier or a giant happy butterfly, could move chess figures with two hands or could learn how to juggle.
Nu Boyana Film Studios also organized tours around the set-scenes, free from cinema productions, ‘British and American Street’.

Young and elderly surveyed with magnifying glasses the Botanical Garden on Midsummer Day
24.06.2015

Sofiyska Voda organized a celebration with workshops in the University Botanic Garden to celebrate the popular festival of Midsummer herbs. For a fourth consecutive year, the garden opened its door free of charge for all residents of Sofia, and for the kids two workshops were organized on botany. In one of them the young visitors were looking for the answer to the question: Can I live in a world without plants? Afterwards they learnt what photosynthesis, biodiversity and climate changes are.

In the second ‘botanical workshop’ the children had the important task to identify different types of plants, to describe and illustrate them. Then armed with magnifying glasses they had to find them among the various plants in the garden.

The parents had the opportunity to listen to a discourse, prepared by the specialists in the University Botanic Garden. The conversation about the plants and their nature included also information about the history and the organization of each corner in the small green oasis in the center of the city of Sofia.

The event was initially supposed to take place on 1 June, the International Children's Day, but it was postponed due to bad weather conditions. The event, organized by Sofiyska Voda and Veolia, had the motto ‘I love water and know how to save it’. The hosts organized many games, gave awards and useful advice about water to all the children and their parents who had chosen the cool Borisova Gradina Park on Sunday.

All the children received balloons, and the bravest ones participated in quizzes at which they gained precious knowledge about water and why they should appreciate and save it. The most active participants received certificates of ‘special contribution to water’.

Everyone received leaflets with useful advice about saving water, which are suitable even for the youngest, and drawings of Drop and Droplet, hosts of the event, which had to be painted. For this purpose, a special area was organized for the children to paint and use their creative imagination. The kids took the challenge with relish and painted the pictures of the characters with great diligence. Almost all of them preferred to use the blue color for their drawings, and Drop and Droplet posed eagerly before the beginner ‘illustrators’.
